Qatari mediators expect the United States and Iran to respond within 36 hours to a new proposal meant to move talks forward, according to an official briefed on the discussions, as reported by Reuters.
A senior Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran and Washington remain far from a deal to end the war, and that Iran is unwilling to accept what it called excessive US demands. Iranian negotiators left Doha on Sunday after three days of talks with the Qatari mediators.
Separately, Reuters reported that US intelligence sharing on Iran has slowed or stopped in some cases, and that the administration is weighing whether to resume strikes on Iran after Tuesday's midterm elections.
