Romanian F-16 fighter jets shot down two drones over the country's territorial waters on Saturday, the Romanian defence ministry said. Defence Minister Radu Miruta said on Sunday the drones were likely "latest generation Russian drones" flying at speeds similar to fighter jets.

On Sunday morning a suspected drone exploded over Lithuania, triggering an alert in which residents of northern and central areas were told to take shelter for about an hour. Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said it regretted the incident in Lithuanian airspace and suggested the drone may have been diverted off course by Russian electronic warfare.

Two NATO members dealing with drone incursions within 24 hours shows how far the war in Ukraine continues to spill into the alliance's airspace.
