Kyiv startup CODE380 has built the D·Vision SDR, a pocket-sized receiver that picks up live video from many Russian drones and shows it on a small screen. Because the drones transmit video without scrambling, the receiver reveals where a drone is heading and what its pilot is aiming at.
The device weighs about 10 ounces, according to Defense News, less than half the weight of competing Ukrainian models, one of which weighs a couple of pounds. It also monitors the radio channels that Russia's Molniya drones began using for video in June.
Radio specialist Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov, an adviser to Ukraine's president, warned that most detectors see these frequencies poorly and that over-reliance on a detector could be fatal. He also cautioned that a switch from analog to digital video would blind receivers like this one, and the New York Times reported in August that some Molniyas are AI-guided and emit no signals.
