A ballistic missile struck the Saudi Aramco headquarters complex in Dhahran on Tuesday night, a company source told Reuters. The top three floors of an office tower were damaged and the building was reported on fire. Saudi Arabia's Energy Ministry described it as an attack on an administrative building causing a limited fire, with no injuries or deaths. Aramco has not commented officially.
The Saudi-led coalition said fragments of an intercepted missile fell on a residential area in Dhahran, and that it also shot down drones and missiles over Riyadh and the south. The Houthis had threatened the Dhahran site and have fired ballistic missiles and drones at key Saudi targets for about a week. Riyadh airport has been hit four times; a Saturday strike killed 13 people, the deadliest attack in Saudi Arabia in a decade.
The escalation follows Saudi Arabia's renewed Yemen campaign after the Houthis advanced to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait last month, and is tied to the wider US-Iran war. Iran has offered to mediate between Riyadh and the Houthis.
