Agility Robotics revealed Digit 5 on September 15, its fifth-generation humanoid robot designed to work directly alongside people on factory and warehouse floors without physical barriers. The robot stands 5'11", weighs 284 lbs, and can repeatedly lift up to 50 lbs, a 40% payload increase over its predecessor.
The key upgrade is a new safety architecture: 360-degree human detection via visual and auditory sensors feeds an independent safety controller that autonomously slows, stops, or reroutes the robot around nearby workers, and can drop it into a stable seated position with motors off if someone gets too close. A redesigned leg with cycloidal actuators and padded knees lets it kneel and squat, and a 90-minute battery recharges in 9 minutes, a 10:1 run-to-charge ratio that enables 20+ hours of daily operation.
Agility says it has already secured more than $300 million in multi-year customer orders, with Digit 5 assembled at its 70,000-square-foot RoboFab plant in Salem, Oregon, capable of producing up to 10,000 units a year. Early access starts in the first half of 2027, with general availability by year's end and a first expansion into the EU and UK. "Digit 5 is removing a major barrier to scaling humanoid robots in industrial environments," said CEO Peggy Johnson.
