1Password has launched 1Password for Agents, a platform that lets users authorize AI agents to sign in to their personal accounts without the agent ever seeing a password. When an agent tries to log in, it presents a unique digital key to 1Password to prove its identity. The user gets an alert and must confirm, after which 1Password signs in and fills in the credentials.
Users can pick the agent they want, including Anthropic's Claude Duet, OpenAI's Dots and ChatGPT Work, Grok Bot, Meta's Muse and agents from the startup Town. 1Password says it is working with more companies to expand support. No pricing or wider availability details were given.
The launch comes as Axios reports that US banks have begun detecting agentic activity in customer accounts, often unable to tell whether it reflects a user's request. A Chase spokesperson said customers "should not give their usernames and passwords to anyone." 1Password argues that handing over a credential is a common shortcut for agents, and that delegation needs a safer route.
