Overview
The Braque Dupuy was a pointing breed from the Poitou region of France. It was the tallest of the French braques and had a slender, racy build reminiscent of a sighthound.
It was never well known outside France and always rare at home. It is generally believed to be extinct, although some claim otherwise.
History
The breed was closer to the English Pointer than to other French braques, and its foundation stock was heavily crossed with Pointers. Some believe Greyhound and Sloughi blood added speed.
Many origin stories exist, most naming a breeder, gamekeeper or huntsman called Dupuy. One says he crossed Braque Français dogs, another that brothers used a Sloughi sire, and another a Poitou Pointer and a Greyhound.
Appearance
The Braque Dupuy had a long, slender head and a racy outline. It stood 65 to 69 cm tall, making it the tallest French braque.
It was mainly white with dark brown markings and carried an undocked tail.
Temperament
As a pointing dog of speed and drive, it would have been keen and hardworking in the field. Its character is not well documented.
Care and exercise
The breed no longer exists in any known numbers. A dog like this would have needed lots of fast exercise and work.
