Anthropic has donated the Agent Skills open standard, including its name, logo, GitHub organization and the agentskills.io domain, to the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), hosted by the Linux Foundation. Anthropic co-founded AAIF with Block and OpenAI and earlier donated the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to it.

Agent Skills lets AI agents learn specialized tasks and workflows. More than 70 agent platforms, including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and VS Code, have integrated it. About 1 million skills have been published and nearly 280 million installed. Engineers from Anthropic, Google, OpenAI and other companies will maintain the standard as individuals, with David Soria Parra and Mahesh Murag as lead maintainers.

The move is meant to keep the standard open and vendor-neutral. A proposed roadmap covers versioned releases, a formal proposal process and security guidance for skill authors and installers.
