Replit CEO and co-founder Amjad Masad said at TechCrunch Disrupt on October 16 that the company is no longer working with Anthropic as its default model provider. OpenAI's ChatGPT is now the default, while customers can still pick Anthropic models. Because most users keep the default, the move could sharply cut Replit's spending with Anthropic, of which it was until recently a top-five customer.
Masad cited cost, partnership and performance. "I think ChatGPT is better now," he said, pointing to Replit's public benchmark, in which he says OpenAI's Sol and Astra models build vibe-coded applications from scratch better. Replit announced its OpenAI partnership in August and says it "remains model agnostic." An anonymous insider disputed his account and said the Anthropic partnership was still in place.
Masad also said enterprise was about 2% of Replit's revenue last year and is about 15% this year, with more than 50% of revenue now B2B. He expects over half of revenue to come from enterprise and government customers in 2027.
