Deno creator Ryan Dahl announced on October 9 that the entire Deno team is joining Cloudflare. Financial terms were not disclosed. Future work will go into a shared platform built around Cloudflare Workers and Durable Objects rather than a separate runtime and hosting service, with Dahl citing the need for better abstractions, especially for AI.

The Deno runtime will get monthly bug-fix and security releases for one more year, after which Cloudflare ends development. Deno remains open source and others are invited to continue it. Deno Deploy will run for six months before shutting down, with migration support to Workers for paying customers. The JSR package registry will keep running on Cloudflare infrastructure, and work on rusty_v8 continues, including integration into workerd.

Why it matters: developers relying on Deno or Deno Deploy now face a defined migration window, while Cloudflare consolidates a major JavaScript runtime team behind its Workers platform.
