Tesla unveiled the redesigned second-generation Roadster on Oct. 15 at an event near Waco, Texas, after repeated delays. In the demo, the car drove up an inverted ramp, spun and landed, then used SpaceX-developed thrusters to hop over a Cybercab, Cybertruck, Tesla Semi, Model Y and Model 3.
Tesla claims 0-60 mph in one second, about 300 miles of range and speeds above 230 mph on all trims. The car uses ten thrusters fed by 600 liters of compressed air. Three trims were shown: Performance (road ready), Thrust (race ready) and Rocket (air ready, one seat, invite only). No retail price was given; reservations are $50,000 for Performance and $250,000 for Thrust.
Elon Musk said production would start in 2028 and called it "the best of the last of the human-driven cars," adding it may not "move the needle massively" on revenue. Tesla first revealed a Roadster prototype in 2017, with deliveries then promised for 2020.
