Snap CEO Evan Spiegel is pitching the company's $2,195 Specs AR glasses as a workplace computer, not a camera for consumers. Snap has announced partnerships with Salesforce, Nvidia and Amazon Web Services: Salesforce will bring its Agentforce platform to the glasses, Nvidia will supply AI interpretation of the user's surroundings, and Amazon will provide a voice-activated assistant.

Spiegel envisions a post-smartphone era in which Specs act as a full computer with a large private display for streaming, screen casting, whiteboards and workspace conversion. Snap says preorder interest is huge but has given no figures. The Specs program has consumed more than $3.5 billion so far, and activist investor Irenic Capital Management wants it funded separately from Snap's core business.

The bet follows costly precedents: Meta's Reality Labs lost $88.1 billion from 2019 to 2025, and Google ended its Glass Enterprise Edition in 2023. Whether businesses will pay for smart glasses is the test Snap now faces.
