Apple held a keynote at Apple Park on September 9, led by new hardware engineering chief John Ternus, to unveil the iPhone Duo — the company's first foldable phone and, Apple says, the biggest change to the iPhone lineup in nearly 20 years. The device folds into a compact form and opens into a large inner display, with a design goal of matching the thinness of a regular iPhone when unfolded.
The foldable design also enables new camera tricks: users can shoot with the higher-resolution rear camera system while using the outer display as a viewfinder for selfies. Battery life scales with how the device is used — up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner screen, up to 44 hours on the outer screen alone, or about 24 hours with mixed use of both displays.
The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for 256GB and rises to $3,199 for the 2TB model. Pre-orders open October 16, with the phone shipping October 23. Apple also used the event to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, AirPods 5, Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4.
