Apple will require “Made With AI” labels on Apple Music for any track, composition, artwork, or music video where generative AI created a substantial portion of the content, according to an email sent to content partners this week. The label becomes mandatory for the first time — Apple introduced similar Transparency Tags as an optional disclosure back in March 2026.
The distinction matters: a human-written and performed song that used AI tools only for mastering or EQ won't be tagged, but a track whose vocals and instrumentation were generated primarily through prompts will carry the label for every listener to see. Apple VP Oliver Schusser said in April 2026 that more than a third of monthly uploads to Apple Music are already 100% AI-generated, even though such tracks account for less than 0.5% of actual listening.
No exact launch date has been set beyond “later this year.” Apple already runs an in-house AI-detection system but is still relying on content creators for accurate disclosure, meaning enforcement will depend heavily on the honesty of the labels and distributors uploading tracks.
