London's High Court has rejected a legal challenge by Meta, TikTok and X against information requests issued by UK regulator Ofcom under the Online Safety Act. The companies had argued the demands for data were disproportionate.

The court found those arguments did not hold, clearing the way for Ofcom to keep requiring platforms to hand over information it needs to assess compliance with the law.

Why it matters: the ruling strengthens the regulator's hand in enforcing the UK's online safety regime against the largest social media companies.
