Renault CEO François Provost said the carmaker plans to invest more than €10 billion in France over the next five years, mainly in electric vehicles and cheaper models. He made the announcement in a France Inter radio interview on October 3, conditional on a supportive social and political climate.

Provost said Renault invested €13 billion in France over the past five years to retool its industrial footprint for electrification. The company built 500,000 cars in France in 2025 and expects at least 25% more in 2026 as the EV shift continues.

Demand is rising: electric cars hit a record 42% of new car registrations in France in September, helped by fuel price spikes since the start of the Iran war. The French state owns about 15% of Renault.
