Super Micro Computer (SMCI) disclosed it has received more than $60 billion in new orders for its fiscal fourth quarter, which ended June 30 — up sharply from the $39 billion backlog it reported just a month earlier alongside a $7 billion fundraising round. The AI server maker also said gross margins for the quarter should land between 15% and 17%, nearly double its earlier guidance of 8.2% to 8.4%, citing a more favorable mix of customers and products.
CEO Charles Liang tied part of the surge to a new AI infrastructure partnership, saying Super Micro is proud to co-build another new gigawatt AI data center for SpaceX and Elon Musk's xAI — a joint venture some reports have dubbed SpaceXAI — within a year. The deal adds Super Micro to the growing list of hardware suppliers riding the AI data-center buildout led by SpaceX, xAI, and other hyperscale players.
Shares of Super Micro jumped as much as 19% in extended trading after the announcement, though the stock remains down roughly 16% over the preceding month amid broader volatility in AI-infrastructure names. Rivals Dell and HPE also rallied on the news, as investors read Super Micro's numbers as a bullish signal for AI server demand industry-wide.
