Google DeepMind rolled out three new Gemini models on July 21 — Gemini 3.6 Flash, Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite, and the government-only Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber — while its flagship Gemini 3.5 Pro remains absent months after its promised launch.

Gemini 3.6 Flash cuts token usage by up to 17% versus its predecessor, drops output pricing to $7.50 per million tokens (from $9), and pushes its knowledge cutoff forward to March 2026. The cheaper 3.5 Flash-Lite starts at $0.30/$2.50 per million tokens, and 3.5 Flash Cyber is a specialized cybersecurity model being piloted only with governments and trusted partners.

Google DeepMind product lead Logan Kilpatrick said Gemini 3.5 Pro is being tested with partners and should "land soon," while the company has begun what it calls its "most ambitious pre-training run yet" for Gemini 4. The delay comes as rivals OpenAI (GPT-5.5, GPT-5.6) and Anthropic (Claude Opus 4.8, Claude Sonnet 5) have already shipped newer flagship models this year.
