Age of War is a lane strategy game in the spirit of the classic Flash game. Two bases face each other across one battlefield. You train soldiers, they march toward the enemy and fight whatever stands in their way, and the first side to tear down the other base wins. Every kill brings gold and experience, and enough experience lets you evolve into the next age with stronger units, new turrets and a bigger special attack.
This version runs in your browser with nothing to install. You can fight the computer on four difficulty levels, or play a real person in real time, either a random opponent through Quick Match or a friend through a private room code. A match lasts as long as you want it to: a quick Blitz over a lunch break, a Classic game close to the original, or an Epic battle of about an hour.
It is made for anyone who liked the original and for newcomers to strategy games. The rules fit in a few sentences, but timing an evolution, choosing between more units and more turrets, and saving the special for the right wave decide the close games.
Choose Single Player with a match length and a difficulty, or Multiplayer with Quick Match or a private room.
Click a unit in the bar at the bottom or press 1, 2 or 3. Units are built one after another and then march right on their own and fight whatever they meet.
Gold comes in every second and for every enemy you kill. Kills also give experience, shown in the XP bar.
When the XP bar is full, press Evolve or E. You get the next age's units, turrets and special attack, and your base gains health.
Put turrets in the slots on your base to hold the line, and fire the special attack with F when a big wave comes.
Push your army across the field. The first side to bring the other base down to zero wins.
Each age brings three new units, two new turret types and a new special attack. Units and turrets you already have keep fighting.
Yes. The game is free in the browser with no download and no account. Signing in with a TechTools account is optional and only fills in your name for multiplayer.
Press Create room under Multiplayer. The game shows a four-character room code. Your friend types the code into the room code field on their computer and presses Join. A private room uses the match length its creator picked.
Quick Match pairs you with the next player who is waiting. It is always played at Classic pace. If nobody turns up for a while, the lobby offers to start a match against the AI instead, or you can keep waiting.
You choose before a single-player match: Blitz takes about 10 minutes, Classic about 25 and Epic about 60. These are guides, not limits. If neither side breaks through, sudden death begins and both bases take growing damage until one falls.
The AI gives the same orders a player can give. On Easy it acts slowly and gets no help. Normal, Hard and Insane act faster, counter the mix of your army and get extra passive gold: 15 % more on Normal, 40 % on Hard and 85 % on Insane.
Keys 1, 2 and 3 train the three units of your current age, E evolves, F or Space fires the special attack and P pauses a single-player match. Multiplayer matches cannot be paused.
A match is not saved: it runs until a base falls or you leave. Your win and loss record, career statistics, achievements and settings are kept in this browser's local storage, so they stay on this device.
The game is made for a computer with a keyboard and mouse, so on a phone the page first shows a notice. Open anyway still opens the game. Hold the phone in landscape: the battlefield is wider and the controls get a compact layout.
