# Goldman Sachs Pulls AI Coding Tools From Traders and Bankers, Leaving Them to Engineers

> Goldman Sachs has restricted Claude Code and GitHub tools to engineers, ending a months-long experiment by non-technical staff.

Goldman Sachs has restricted most employees from advanced AI coding tools, including Anthropic's Claude Code and Microsoft's GitHub tools. Only engineers can still use them, according to Bloomberg, which cites internal guidelines issued in October.

Traders and bankers had used the tools for months to monitor trading flows and create content. In July, CIO Marco Argenti praised "vibe coding" by non-technical staff, who would prototype with AI and hand off to engineers for production. That plan appears to have been dropped, and the rollback reportedly frustrates staff inside the firm.

Spokesperson Nick Carcaterra cited a "variety of factors including productivity and risk management." He said the experimentation phase is over and access is limited to people "who are best suited to leverage them for the long term."
