> Switzerland will amend its draft law on communication platforms and search engines with measures to protect children and widen the reporting procedure.

The Swiss Federal Council decided on 14 October 2026 to strengthen youth protection in its planned law on communication platforms and search engines. It reviewed the results of the public consultation and instructed the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) to prepare the formal proposal to Parliament.

The preliminary draft is to be amended with measures to protect children. The government has not yet specified what these measures will be. The reporting procedure is also to be extended so that it covers all content suspected of being unlawful.

DETEC has until the end of 2027 to deliver the dispatch. The consultation on the draft began on 29 October 2025, so the final text and its child-protection details will only emerge in the coming year.
