# Federal Judge Blocks Taxpayer-Funded National TV Ads Promoting Trump

U.S. District Judge Jennifer Rochon of New York has ordered the Trump administration to stop running taxpayer-funded television ads that promote the president. She found the ads likely unlawful and blocked the use of public money to distribute them.

The ads began airing nationally in September and were paid for with millions of dollars from the Department of Homeland Security. The judge also ordered the government to cancel any slot, placement, reservation or arrangement for airing the challenged ads. The order took effect immediately and covered spots scheduled for Sunday night.

A Justice Department filing over the weekend said the ad buy was set to end Sunday. The ruling is a preliminary finding of likely illegality, not a final judgment.
