# Hurricane Isaias Makes Landfall Near Destin, Florida, as a Category 2 Storm

Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin in the Florida Panhandle around 9:30 p.m. EDT Friday with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph, a high-end Category 2. It had been forecast as a Category 3 on its approach, and emergencies were declared across the Panhandle.

By 5 a.m. Saturday the system was post-tropical with winds of 35 mph, and storm surge and tropical storm warnings were discontinued as water levels receded.

The National Hurricane Center warned of flash flooding across parts of the Southeast, with 4 to 8 inches of rain and localized totals up to 15 inches.
