Kathy Hochul declared a statewide disaster emergency over measles on Oct. 5, the first such declaration by a U.S. state since cases began surging in 2025. The order runs through Nov. 4.\n\nThe state has recorded 108 measles cases this year, 92 of them since July 15, mostly in under-immunized rural communities across 18 counties. The order lets paramedics, advanced EMS providers, pharmacists and midwives give the measles vaccine, and lets nurses order testing.\n\nNew York also launched a public Measles Dashboard to track local risk. Neighboring Pennsylvania has reported 1,004 cases across 39 counties in 2026, including five measles-associated deaths."}}
