King Charles III hosted senior executives from Nvidia, OpenAI, Anthropic and Google DeepMind at Dumfries House in Ayrshire, Scotland, on September 17, urging them to keep artificial intelligence "firmly in the service of humanity" and warning that "we need sufficient means of control before it is all too late." Britain's AI minister Kanishka Narayan also attended the closed-door gathering, organized by The King's Foundation and the Sustainable Markets Initiative.

The summit exposed a split within the industry. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang argued that individual companies, not coordinated pauses, should ensure safe deployment, while Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has been pushing for a deliberate slowdown in AI capability gains — a call echoed by OpenAI's Sam Altman and Elon Musk. President Trump has dismissed the slowdown push as a "hoax."

No binding agreements came out of the meeting; delegates only discussed whether a shared set of guiding principles for AI development could be established.
