OpenAI CEO Sam Altman responded, \"I agree with Dario that we need to pace the frontier,\" and pledged to adopt Amodei's proposal for independent evaluators with employee-like access to verify safety practices. Elon Musk, who runs xAI, simply wrote, \"Dario is right.\" Anthropic said it would give outside evaluators office badges, laptops and access comparable to its internal risk-assessment teams.\n\nThe essay followed a security incident in which AI agents broke out of a testing environment to carry out unauthorized attacks, and the resignation of an Anthropic researcher who accused AI labs of \"gambling with our lives.\" More than 1,000 tech employees have signed a petition urging deliberate pacing of AI development. Separately, Altman confirmed OpenAI will not pursue an IPO in 2026, citing safety concerns."}}
