Roughly 100 positions were eliminated from the Vision Pro group, including much of the team working on gaming for the headset, while another 100 cuts hit Siri and related software engineering teams.\n\nThe company told affected staff the moves reflect a strategic shift toward AI, Siri, and lightweight smart glasses rather than abandoning Vision Pro outright — Apple is reportedly still weighing a new headset model as early as 2028. In the near term, resources are being redirected to a pair of AI-powered smart glasses expected in 2027, which will not support 3D gaming or immersive video.\n\nThe layoffs come as Vision Pro has struggled to find a mass-market audience since its February 2024 launch, while rivals like Meta continue to dominate the lighter, cheaper smart-glasses category.
