The company was valued at $5 billion as recently as December 2025.\n\nEtched builds what it calls “frontier inference clusters”: full AI systems built around two custom components, a low-voltage “prefill” chip that packs in more transistors for faster token processing, and cluster-scale memory that links chips together with high-speed, low-latency shared memory pools. The pitch is to make running large AI models faster and cheaper than on general-purpose GPUs, challenging Nvidia's grip on the AI inference market.\n\nJane Street tested Etched's hardware and put its first rack to work in its own data center before leading the round, joined by Kleiner Perkins, Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Tiger Global, Bain Capital Ventures and others. Etched says it has locked in more than $1 billion in customer contracts across AI companies and cloud providers, and its new valuation now tops the $20 billion Nvidia paid in December to license technology from rival chip startup Groq."}}
