Meta had completed the deal on December 29, 2025.\n\nChina's National Development and Reform Commission ordered the unwind in April 2026, ruling that the transaction violated rules on foreign investment and technology exports. Regulators argued that even though Manus relocated its headquarters from China to Singapore in 2025, its core technology and talent originated in China and remained subject to Beijing's oversight. Manus co-founders CEO Xiao Hong and chief scientist Ji Yichao were summoned to Beijing in March and barred from leaving the country during the review.\n\nManus builds general-purpose AI agents that automate desktop tasks and was generating more than $100 million in annualized revenue at the time Meta acquired it. Data created by users on or after the acquisition date will be deleted between August 23 and 24 as part of the separation, with account restoration beginning August 25."}}
