Unlike a real star, which is powered by nuclear fusion, the black hole star's extreme luminosity comes from gas falling into the black hole at its core. \"You have something that looks a bit like a star but is 100 billion times brighter,\" Naidu said.\n\nSince JWST began operating in 2022, it has spotted hundreds of similarly puzzling ultra-bright \"little red dots\" in the early universe, and their nature has divided astronomers. Naidu's team argues that many of these objects could be black hole stars viewed through or embedded within their host galaxies, offering a new explanation for one of the biggest open questions of the JWST era."}}
