The judge found Meta intentionally used features like endless scrolling, autoplay and constant notifications to keep teenagers engaged longer, and ordered the company to roll out clearer safety banners, stronger age verification, and to delete personal data collected on users under 13.\n\nThe penalty adds to $375 million in civil damages a jury awarded against Meta in March after finding the company knowingly harmed children's mental health and concealed what it knew about child sexual exploitation on its platforms — bringing its total liability in the case to $942 million. New Mexico Attorney General Raul Torrez called the ruling \"a victory for every parent who has worried about what social media is doing to their child,\" while Meta said it plans to appeal, arguing it has \"worked hard to keep people safe\" on its platforms."}}
