> Sony beat Q1 profit estimates with a 40% operating-income jump and raised its full-year forecast as PlayStation hit a record 125 million monthly active users.

Sony posted a 40% year-over-year jump in first-quarter operating profit, reaching ¥476.5 billion, and raised its full-year earnings forecast on the back of strong gaming performance, favorable exchange rates and U.S. tariff refunds. Group revenue climbed 8% to $17.81 billion, beating analyst estimates.

The company lifted its full-year operating income forecast by 8% to ¥1.72 trillion. PlayStation Network monthly active users hit a record 125 million for June, even as PS5 hardware sales slipped to 1.6 million units for the quarter. Digital purchases now make up 82% of PS4/PS5 game sales, underscoring the platform's shift away from physical media. Sony CFO Lin Tao said the company will keep moving "cautiously" toward that digital-focused future.

Sony also raised its outlook for its image-sensor business and confirmed it has secured enough memory chip supply to protect hardware margins for the rest of the fiscal year. Looking ahead, PlayStation's biggest catalyst is Grand Theft Auto VI, due November 19, with God of War: Laufey following in February 2027.
