# Apple Delays Smart Glasses to 2027 Over Privacy Concerns

> Apple has delayed its smart glasses launch to late 2027 as it works to avoid the privacy backlash faced by Meta's Ray-Ban glasses.

Apple has pushed back the launch of its long-rumored smart glasses to late 2027, with an unveiling now expected at WWDC that year, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The device was originally targeted for a 2026 debut, but engineers within Apple's Vision hardware group say privacy is priority No. 1 for a product that would put a camera on someone's face.

Apple is reportedly considering several privacy-first designs, including a camera-free version and a variant where the camera feeds visual data directly to Siri without capturing or storing photos or video. The company is also developing software safeguards that could disable recording if tampering with the device's recording indicator light is detected.

The caution follows backlash against Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses, which spawned an underground market for accessories that hide or disable the recording light, letting wearers film people without their knowledge. Apple's slower approach suggests it wants to avoid a similar privacy controversy before entering the wearable-camera market.
