# Microsoft Launches 'Project Perception' — AI Agents That Hunt and Fix Security Flaws Before Hackers Do

Microsoft unveiled a new agentic security platform called Project Perception at a San Francisco event on July 27, 2026, aimed at countering a new generation of autonomous AI-powered cyberattacks. The system coordinates three classes of AI agents — red team agents that probe for vulnerabilities, blue team agents that assess which risks actually matter, and green team agents that apply fixes automatically — working continuously without waiting for a human security team.

Alongside Project Perception, Microsoft introduced MAI-Cyber-1-Flash, its first purpose-built cybersecurity AI model, integrated with the company's MDASH code-scanning harness to speed up vulnerability detection and remediation. Hayete Gallot, Microsoft's Security EVP, said "the physics of cyber have fundamentally changed" as attacks shift from AI-assisted to fully autonomous. The announcement follows a May 2026 report from Google's Threat Intelligence Group describing hackers who used AI to build a working zero-day exploit for mass attacks.

Project Perception enters public preview on August 3, 2026. Microsoft says it can tap trillions of signals from its own infrastructure to spot threats faster and more cheaply than rival AI security tools — a bet that autonomous defense agents are now necessary to keep pace with autonomous attackers.
