It was bred for tracking deer and hunting wild boar.\n\nAt home it is described as laid back and good with children, but it was developed as a hunting dog rather than a pet or show dog.","history":"A hunting hound of this type has been known since antiquity, and today's breed was first recognised in the 1870s. The Austrian Brandlbracke, the Polish Greyhound and the Hungarian Greyhound are believed to have contributed. A breed club was founded in Bratislava in 1988.\n\nThe FCI lists it as breed number 244 in Group 6. The name Black Forest Hound was coined in North America for marketing and has no link to the Black Forest.","appearance":"A typical hound with a muscular body, long legs, long tail and long drop ears. The short coat is always black with tan markings. Dogs are around 46 cm and about 16 kg, with bitches somewhat smaller. It is heavier built than the American Black and Tan Coonhound but lighter than the Polish Ogar.","personality":"Independent but intelligent and easy to train, with a good sense of direction. It can be protective of family and property without being aggressive, and is not especially vocal except on a find or when strangers arrive.","care":"A working hound needs plenty of exercise and mental work, ideally with tracking or scent games. The short coat needs only occasional brushing."},"recognition":{"fci_number":null,"fci_standard_url":null,"akc_url":"https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/slovensky-kopov/"},"sources":{"wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slovensk%C3%BD_kopov","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q38102","wikipedia_revision":1378964683},"profile":{"written_by":"AI model (Claude Sonnet) from the sources above","written_at":"2026-10-15T13:59:38Z"}}}
