It was created to work a wide range of game across varied terrain and weather.\n\nIn the right hands it is a focused and willing worker. It needs an active life and a job to do, whether in the field or in dog sports.","history":"The breed was developed after World War II by Koloman Slimak, who crossed German Wirehaired Pointers, Weimaraners and the Cesky Fousek, with a little later input from Pudelpointers. He wanted a dog with great stamina that could track, point and retrieve game from birds and hares up to deer.\n\nThe FCI recognised it in the 1980s or 1990s as a continental pointing dog of the braque type. It reached the United Kingdom in 1997 and has appeared at Crufts. Its breeders once asked to have it called a Rough-haired Weimaraner, but the request was refused.","appearance":"A sturdy, well-built pointer with a rough or broken coat of harsh, wiry hair and moustache-like facial furnishings. The coat is moderate in length and ranges from tweedy grey-brown to pewter-silver, sometimes speckled, with white allowed on the chest and feet.\n\nMales stand 62 to 68 cm and females 57 to 64 cm at the withers. Adult eyes are amber, the nose and pads are dark, and the body is slightly longer than tall.","personality":"Intelligent, alert and eager to work, this pointer combines drive with a steady, trainable nature. It has great stamina and a strong hunting instinct, and it enjoys both tracking and retrieving.\n\nWith its family it is generally affectionate, but it is happiest when kept busy.","care":"Needs plenty of vigorous daily exercise and real work or sport to keep its mind occupied. It is best suited to an active owner with space and countryside to roam.\n\nThe wiry coat is fairly easy to care for, with weekly brushing and occasional hand stripping to keep it tidy."},"recognition":{"fci_number":320,"fci_standard_url":"https://www.fci.be/en/nomenclature/320.html","akc_url":"https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/slovakian-wirehaired-pointer/"},"sources":{"wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slovak_Rough-haired_Pointer","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q39210","wikipedia_revision":1328234748},"profile":{"written_by":"AI model (Claude Sonnet) from the sources above","written_at":"2026-10-15T13:59:38Z"}}}
