A powerful working dog of India and Pakistan from crossing the Gull Terrier with the Bully Kutta. Prized locally for its speed and tenacity, it is used for guarding and hunting.

## Overview

The Gull Dong is a bull-type dog from the Indian subcontinent, created by crossing the Gull Terrier with the Bully Kutta. It is known locally for speed and tenacity.

It has been used for guarding, hunting and, sadly, dog fighting, which is illegal in many places and which responsible owners reject.

## History

Bull Terriers arrived in the northwest of the subcontinent during British rule and became popular, with a Bull Terrier club founded in Calcutta. Crossed with local dogs, they gave rise to the Gull Terrier.

The Gull Terrier was in turn crossed with the Bully Kutta, giving the Gull Dong, which became famous in India and Pakistan.

## Appearance

A strong, muscular, short-coated dog, combining the build of the Gull Terrier, which resembles a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, with the larger frame of the Bully Kutta. Exact size varies between lines.

## Temperament

Bold, determined and fast, with strong guarding instincts. It needs an experienced, responsible owner who can provide firm leadership, early socialisation and secure containment.

## Care and exercise

Needs vigorous daily exercise, solid training and careful supervision around other animals. Its short coat requires little grooming.
