It was created to hunt large game such as peccary, wild boar and puma.\n\nIt combines strength, speed and stamina with a good nose. It is a serious dog for experienced owners and is restricted or banned in several countries.","history":"In the 1920s Antonio Nores Martinez, with his brother Augustin, set out to build a big game hunting dog with the fighting spirit of the old Córdoba fighting dog but more size and strength. He began with a Bull Terrier bitch and a bulldog-type fighting dog, and later added a Pyrenean Mastiff.\n\nThe breed standard was published in 1948 and the breed was accepted by the FCI in 1973. Other breeds were later crossed in to refine it.","appearance":"A large, muscular dog with a short, always-white coat. A single dark patch on the head is tolerated if small. Dogs weigh roughly 40 to 45 kg and stand 60 to 68 cm at the withers.\n\nThe body is slightly longer than tall, and the muzzle is about as long as the skull.","personality":"Brave, devoted and strongly attached to its family, it is a natural guardian. It can be dominant with other dogs and needs thorough socialisation.\n\nIt is intelligent and eager to work but should be handled by confident owners.","care":"This athletic dog needs plenty of daily exercise and a job or structured activity. Early socialisation and firm, fair training are important.\n\nThe short coat is easy to groom, though white skin needs protection from strong sun.","health":"Congenital deafness is a known predisposition, and the breed can be affected by laryngeal paralysis and polyneuropathy complex. Lifespan is usually about 10 to 12 years."},"recognition":{"fci_number":292,"fci_standard_url":"https://www.fci.be/en/nomenclature/292.html","akc_url":"https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/dogo-argentino/"},"sources":{"wikipedia":"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dogo_Argentino","wikidata":"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q37909","wikipedia_revision":1377098121},"profile":{"written_by":"AI model (Claude Sonnet) from the sources above","written_at":"2026-10-15T13:37:30Z"}}}
